Messiah Stradivari

Sophisticated, articulate, a consummate nobility of sound combined with a strong presence.

Perfectly proportioned after the best preserved of Stradivari’s oeuvres.

While the original lives in a glass case and cannot be played, the W. E. Hill & Sons ‘Messiah’ can be taken on stage.

Bergonzi

Refined, with a strong personality that has a unique, broad spectrum of colours.

Marked by the best Cremonese makers, Bergonzi created his unique model, sought after by soloists and emulated in the history of W. E. Hill & Sons instruments.

Rode Guarneri del Gesù

Dark, earthy, grounded with a heroic human voice, full of grit and power.

This instrument shows the elegance and sculptural freedom of the maker’s hand.

Violas

The Hill Viola is based on the model of the Mac Donald Viola from 1719 from Antonius Stradivari.

This instrument was quite often in the shop of W. E. Hill & Sons, while it had been played by Peter Schidlof of the renowned Amadeus Quartet.

Cellos

The W. E. Hill & Sons tradition of instrument making started in the late 19th century. More fine instruments passed through W. E. Hill & Sons than any other firm, giving the early makers had the unique opportunity to study and copy original examples, and all these cellos were made on a Stradivari model. Instruments from this time are distributed far and wide around the globe, and now many are in the hands of professional musicians.

We continue making our cellos based on the Gore Booth Stradivari cello of 1710, using only first rate tonewoods and varnish recipes. All instruments are made from centrejoint to set-up in our workshops under directors
